Improved Access - extra appointments available at mid-Norfolk practices
This Practice is engaging in a pilot scheme providing improved access for patients to a range of healthcare professionals.
Appointments will be available at the following Mid-Norfolk practices;
- Orchard Surgery Dereham - call 01362 692916
- Theatre Royal Surgery Dereham - call 01362 852800
- Toftwood Surgery Dereham - call 01362 691196
- Elmham Surgery North Elmham - call 01362 668215
Patients will be able to request an appointments each weekday evening between 6.30pm and 8pm and during selected times at weekends.
These appointments can be pre-booked and are intended to be beneficial to those patients that have difficulty attending during our normal surgery hours.
Extended Hours Access - extra nurse appointments at Lenwade
Additional nurse appointments are now available at Lenwade until 12.30 on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Lenwade Surgery will now remain open until 12.30 on Tuesday and Friday but continue to close at 12noon on Thursday. Opening hours on Mondays remain 8.30-6pm (Closed 1-2pm for lunch) Patients will be able to access the practice by phone during the extended opening hours.
Ear Syringing Service Reinstated
The Nursing Team are now providing a limited in-house ear syringing service to patients. Patients will continue to be requested to follow the ear care advice currently supplied instructing patients to oil for 2 weeks and use sodium bicarbonate ear drops for a further 2 weeks.
Evidence has shown that removing wax from blocked ears is, in most cases, unnecessary and also shows that syringing comes with risk of infection and ear drum perforation.
If symptoms remain troublesome patients can book a 10-minute Ear Inspection appointment with the Practice Nurse for assessment. Patients will then be offered an ear syringing appointment if indicated at a later date. Referral to the Micro-suction service at Wymondham will only be offered if ear syringing has been unsuccessful.
Dr Jane Ewing has now left the practice
Dr Ewing retired from the practice at the end of March 2019. We are currently actively recruiting an additional GP to join the practice.
Successful charity bid
On behalf of the practice, the Mattishall & Lenwade Surgeries Equipment Fund was successful in obtaining funding through the Tesco Bags of Help scheme and received funding to purchase a new ECG machine. Thank you to everyone that supported the charity when they visited Tesco Dereham.

New opening times for Pharmacy/Dispensary at Mattishall
Each Wednesday the Pharmacy/Dispensary staff will be involved in staff training between 8.30am and 9am. Therefore, the Pharmacy/Dispensary will now open at 9am each Wednesday.

Ordering your medication
Phone ordering for medication has now ceased at both Mattishall and Lenwade Surgeries. Queries are still dealt with between 9.30am and 11.30am and between 3pm and 5pm by calling Mattishall Dispensary on 01362 858585 or by calling Lenwade Dispensary after 10am on open days.
NHS Health Checks
From June 2018, NHS Digital, acting on behalf of Public Health England (PHE), will be collecting information about people who are invited to an NHS Health Check. Further information can be obtained in the below link

Urgent 'book on the day' appointments can be requested by calling Reception at 8.30am for morning clinic and at 12noon for afternoon clinic
If you have a seasonal illness which requires more than a pharmacy but you don't need emergency treatment, we encourage our patients to contact Reception and request an urgent 'book on the day' appointment rather than attending an emergency service such as Accident and Emergency.
Detailed Coded Record (DCR) - we are now granting access.
We have now enabled the functionality on our clinical system to allow patients to request access to their Detailed Coded Record.
In 2016 we ran a successful pilot with members of the Patient Reference Group to test our process for granting patient’s access to their Detailed Coded Record (DCR) via SystmOnline.
We are now in the process of granting access to patients that have requested access to their Detailed Coded Record – please be aware that a GP needs to check each patient record as part of the process of granting access so there is a considerable administration burden on the practice and we have no set time frame for how quickly requests will be responded to.
You need to be registered for SystmOnline and make your request while logged in using the 'Manage Online Services' option under Your Account.

Named Accountable GP
Each patient is allocated a named GP who is responsible for patients' overall care at the Practice, and all new patients are informed of who this is in their welcome letter. You can contact the Practice at any time if you wish to know who this is. If you have a preference as to which GP is nominated as your named GP the Practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request. This will not affect your choice of GP when booking an appointment.
