Patient Engagement Survey for Improved Access

Norfolk & Waveney CCGs would like to find out more about your views on improving access to GP services in the mornings, evenings and at weekends.

Please complete this survey online  www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/improved_access_for_patients_NW_STP

By completing the survey, you have the opportunity to tell us:

  • How likely you are to use appointments in the mornings, evenings and at weekends.
  • The kind of services you might want to use in the mornings, evenings and at weekends.
  • Where you would be willing to travel to access appointments in the mornings, evenings and at weekends

In deciding what level of improved access provision is needed for the local population, the CCGs will consider the responses to this survey, alongside; evidence of GP and nursing shortages, how GP appointments are currently used; current levels of usage of other services during extended access periods such as GP Out of Hours, A&E and local Urgent Treatment Centres /Minor Injury Units/Walk in Centres. We will also look at nationally available evidence where these approaches have been piloted. All of this information will help inform how improved access is provided in your local area.

Withdrawal of Ear Syringing Service

The Practice has taken a clinical decision to withdraw the in-house ear syringing service provided by our Nursing Team.  From 1st December 2017 the nurses will no longer routinely syringe ears.

Evidence has shown that removing wax from blocked ears is, in most cases, unnecessary and also shows that syringing comes with risk of infection and ear drum perforation.

Patients will continue to be requested to follow the ear care advice currently supplied instructing patients to oil for 2 weeks and use sodium bicarbonate ear drops for a further 2 weeks.

If symptoms persist patients can book a 10-minute Ear Inspection appointment with the Practice Nurse for assessment and possible referral to the Micro-suction service at Wymondham.

2017 Flu campaign - book your appointment now!

We are now taking bookings for flu clinics at both Mattishall and Lenwade Surgeries for over 65’s and other eligible patients at risk from the effects of influenza.

Mattishall -Tuesday 12th/19th and Thursday 21st December

Lenwade - please request an appointment time via Reception

Eligible patients are as follows:

  • Aged over 65 as at 31st March 2018.
  • In clinical risk groups including patients with chronic respiratory disease, chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, chronic neurological disease and those with medication controlled diabetes.
  • Immunosuppressed patients, patients with cochlear implants and patients with cerebrospinal fluid leaks are also eligible.
  • Pregnant patients
  • Carers
  • Obese patients with a Body Mass Index over 40

We are now sending out invites for patients up to the age of 18 who are eligible for the nasal spray version to invite them to book a 5-minute appointment with the Practice nurse. Letters will be sent to 2 and 3 year olds and patients in school year 5 and upwards that are at risk.

Please contact Reception to arrange an appointment.

School children in Reception and Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 will receive the nasal spray as part of the school based programme and parents should contact individual schools to find out when this is scheduled.

Urgent 'book on the day' appointments can be requested by calling Reception at 8.30am for morning clinic and at 12noon for afternoon clinic

These appointments are available so that you can be treated when you need to be seen by a GP at short notice. Over winter lots of people have seasonal illnesses which require more than a pharmacy but don't need emergency treatment and in these circumstances we encourage our patients to contact Reception and request an urgent 'book on the day' appointment rather than attending an emergency service such as Accident and Emergency.

Detailed Coded Record (DCR) - we are now granting access.

We have now enabled the functionality on our clinical system to allow patients to request access to their Detailed Coded Record.

In 2016 we ran a successful pilot with members of the Patient Reference Group to test our process for granting patient’s access to their Detailed Coded Record (DCR) via SystmOnline.

We are now in the process of granting access to patients that have requested access to their Detailed Coded Record – please be aware that a GP needs to check each patient record as part of the process of granting access so there is a considerable administration burden on the practice and we have no set time frame for how quickly requests will be responded to.

You need to be registered for SystmOnline and make your request while logged in using the 'Manage Online Services' option under Your Account.

Please contact Emma Edwards for more details.

Named Accountable GP

Each patient is allocated a named GP who is responsible for patients' overall care at the Practice, and all new patients are informed of who this is in their welcome letter.  You can contact the Practice at any time if you wish to know who this is.  If you have a preference as to which GP is nominated as your named GP the Practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request.  This will not affect your choice of GP when booking an appointment.
